Update: With the growing strength of Milton in the Gulf of Mexico — now a major Category 5 storm — we realize that Hurricane Milton may bring devastating winds and dangerous flooding. The organizing team has decided it is best to postpone the Climate Change and Community Resilience Symposium. Stay tuned for the rescheduled date.

Please mark your calendars for this incredible, free event and be sure to register at commonsforjustice.edu The Global Indigenous Forum is proud to have been part of the Mellon-funded, Race, Risk, and Resilience: Building a Local-to-Global “Commons for Justice” Project. It is a remarkable collaborative of eight Miami communities and academic departments and programs across Florida International University. For four years, we have all worked together to discuss ways we can respond to the growing environmental crisis and to consider ways researchers can work with communities on resilient strategies.

Below are three of the featured speakers that will stand out for our Global Indigenous Forum community members:

Sammuel Tommie, Seminole Tribe of Florida, environmental advocate and musician — 10:00 - 10:45 am (opening remarks)

Betty Osceola, Miccosukee Environmental Advocate 12:20-1:50pm (lunchtime featured panel)

Kevin Cuniff, Miccosukee Water Resilience - 2:00-2:45 pm (Change and Risk panel)
