Salvador Quishpe, Ecuadorean Indigenous leader, will speak on the Indigenous movement in Ecuador to secure their rights, and the strategies used by the Ecuadorean government to dismantle the indigenous organizations spearheading the movement. Presented in Spanish with some English translation.
Having received his sociology degree from the University of Virginia, Quishpe served as President of the Confederation of Quichua Peoples of Ecuador (ECUARUNARI) from 1999 - 2001. He also was a key leader in the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador, (CONAIE) 2001 – 2002; Ecuadorian Congressman during two electoral periods, 2003 – 2007; Member of the National Assembly for Revising the Constitution: 2007 – 2008. Most recently, he was re-elected as the Governor of Zamora Chinchipe Province, having served from 2009 – 2014 and now 2014 – 2019.
