Course Overview
An overview of Latin American environmental issues from the pre-Conquest Period to the present day. The course focuses on the management of natural resources, particularly sustainable agriculture, forest management, and deforestation, from Mexico to the Brazilian Amazon and beyond. There is also a substantial focus on the lessons of historical and contemporary indigenous peoples for contemporary issues of sustainability. The impacts of climate change on indigenous peoples and national climate policies of the Latin American countries will also be covered.
