The Changing Face of Shamanism in the Ecuadorian Amazon

Lecture by Dr. Juliet Erazo, Associate Professor of Anthropology, FIU Department of Global and Sociocultural Studies

Shamanism is often imagined to be unchanging, drawing on ancestral knowledge and re-enacting ancient rituals. In this talk, Dr. Juliet Erazo challenges some of these assumptions, while highlighting the ways in which shamanism has remained central in Amazonian cultures and political struggles over the past five decades.
